Become a force for nature and a healthy planet by joining the Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Freshwater Team! This position will add to the team’s capacity and help achieve our equitable freshwater conservation goals, while providing professional development opportunities for the Intern.
The Intern will receive exposure to conservation strategy at higher levels and direct experience in meaningful and relevant watershed management, restoration, and conservation. This position will work under the direction of multiple Freshwater Team staff with a focus on the Upper Mississippi River basin. We are seeking an upper level undergraduate students, recent graduates or graduate student who is looking to gain hands-on experience in freshwater conservation and restoration work. Individuals who are highly organized and proactive with a passion for conservation and restoration work in aquatic ecosystems are encouraged to apply.
This full-time, 14-week position will start on May 17, 2021. For this position, being located near Minneapolis or St. Cloud is preferred, with flexibility within 1-2 hours of the Twin Cities metro area. This position will be paid $15/hr.
All people applying for this position must have the following minimum qualifications:
• Have or be pursuing a degree in environmental science or related field
• Experience in natural resources or conservation science via volunteer and/or work experience
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English
• Experience working with scientific data with strong accountability and commitment to accuracy
Additional preferred qualifications include:
• Proficiency in ArcGIS software
• Experience managing tasks from multiple sources and working independently
• Experience in field data collection of hydrologic or water quality data and doing basic statistics
• Experience creating outreach and/or education materials
• Ability to identify common plants of the upper Midwest
• Experience in or evidence of promoting and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
