The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a nonprofit organization that provides economic opportunities for Latinos in Minnesota by offering ongoing technical assistance, access to lending capital, and training employees in new skills and technologies. LEDC has been engaged in this work for nearly two decades and, as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), can raise capital from a wide range of philanthropic, corporate, and governmental sources to then invest consistent with the mission, goals, and activities described above.
Job Summary:
The Community Outreach Associate will be the primary contact for the gathering and dissemination of information about LEDC relief programs being offered in the Twin Cities Metro counties. They will create, gather and communicate information and materials to potential applicants, as a means of outreach. The Community Outreach Associate is responsible for providing technical assistance to the various small business relief programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform specific business outreach duties as identified by LEDC’s Business Development Director and required under specific Grants, Government Contracts, and RFP’s.
Support LEDC’s strong relationship culture through ongoing customer contact, quality customer service, and superior services knowledge.
Provides technical assistance to existing clients/prospective entrepreneurs in Small Business Relief programs.
Interview and assess client’s needs to determine eligibility to the various federal, state, county, and local small business relief programs.
Assist prospective entrepreneurs with funding applications, including: gathering all necessary documents, filling out forms and applications, and communicating with the funding organizations (e.g. MN DEED, SBA, County or local governments)
Build rapport with clients to facilitate gathering information and convey with clarity specific program requirements.
Gain understanding of how to provide guidance and assistance to clients as needed under specific private or public assistance programs, with the objective of completing intakes and other resource applications.
Develop, plan and conduct outreach activities throughout the Metro area.
Provide coverage at outreach events and alternate sites as needed.
Identify potential candidates and communicate the available resources and programs.
Responsible for briefing the LEDC Business Development team of new relief programs and/or changes to existing programs to stay informed on the available programs.
Other Responsibilities:
Maintain notes of all services provided in the designated Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) and in other reports as needed.
Update and maintain records of services provided in compliance with LEDC’s commitments under specific Grants, Government Contracts and RFP’s, Federal and State Data Practice regulations
Develop relationships with organizations and government entities and their staff, in the Twin Cities Metro area to facilitate and achieve good and consistent communication about available opportunities, changes to systems, and strategies for overcoming clients’ barriers.
Skills / Qualifications:
At least two years of experience working with small businesses either as a consultant or in management, a plus.
Experience working on Small Business Administration (SBA), relief programs Payroll Protection Program (PPP), Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF), MN DEED Small Business Relief program, and County or City (e.g. Hennepin County Small Business Relief, Ramsey County Small Business Relief, City of St. Paul or City of Minneapolis).
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent objectives, projects, or activities; and work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent listening skills, curiosity, and willingness to learn with an open mind.
Self-motivated and willing to drive new projects through the finish line.
Cultural competency and the ability to engage and work constructively with underrepresented communities.
Advanced knowledge and experience with computer programs that support the development team, including Microsoft Office and Teams.
Bilingual English and Spanish.
